General Leave of Absence
Reason
When a student is unable to attend classes for one month or longer due to personal circumstances
Application Period

Important Notes
- Newly admitted students admitted in the 2023 academic year or later may not take a leave of absence during their first two semesters. Transfer and readmitted students may not take a leave of absence during their first semester after admission.. Exceptions apply to leave for military service, illness, or childcare.
- First-year students admitted to an undergraduate division in which majors are assigned later may not take a leave of absence for one semester. This applies to students admitted through the 2022 academic year. — Article 11 of the Detailed Enforcement Regulations of the Academic Regulations
Extension of Leave of Absence
Reason
When a student currently on a general leave of absence wishes to extend the leave period

Up to one year, on one occasion only (a one-semester extension is also permitted)
Important Notes
- A student on a general leave of absence who neither applies for reinstatement nor extends the leave period will be dismissed from the university for failure to return.
- A student whose leave of absence has already been extended may not apply for any further extension.
Military Service Leave of Absence
Reason
When a student is unable to continue their studies due to mandatory military service, including active-duty service, social service, or service as skilled industrial personnel

Duration of Leave
For the applicable period of military service (up to six years)
Required Documents
Before the enlistment date: Notice of Enlistment,
After the enlistment date: Certificate of Military Service, Certificate of Service, or Resident Registration Abstract containing military service information(A Certificate of Enlistment Confirmation is not accepted.)
Important Notes
- A student who is sent home after enlistment must report to the Academic Affairs Team within one week, cancel the military service leave of absence, and either return to the university or change the leave to a general leave of absence. Complete the “Application for Cancellation of Military Service Leave of Absence” available under Website → Campus Life → Forms.
- A student who has been sent home but fails to return to the university without a valid reason will be dismissed in accordance with university regulations. — Article 23 of the Detailed Enforcement Regulations of the Academic Regulations
- A student who applies for military service leave between the date marking two-thirds of the semester and the end of the semester must submit an Application for Grade Recognition for any course in which the student is unable to take the final examination. The student is responsible for any disadvantages resulting from failure to submit the application.
- A student who needs to extend the leave period due to commissioning as an officer must submit a Military Career Certificate indicating the expected discharge date to the Academic Affairs Team at inuaa@inu.ac.kr.
- A student who is not eligible for a general leave of absence—for example, a newly admitted student during the first two semesters or a transfer or readmitted student during the first semester—must continue attending classes until the military service leave of absence is officially approved.
Medical Leave of Absence
Reason
When a student is unable to attend classes for one month or longer due to illness

Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Childcare Leave of Absence
Reason
When a student has difficulty continuing their studies due to pregnancy, childbirth, or childcare
Application Period
When the need for leave arises ※ A student applying after two-thirds of the semester has elapsed must submit an Application for Grade Recognition. The student is responsible for any disadvantages resulting from failure to submit the application.

Entrepreneurial Leave of Absence
Reason
When a student has difficulty continuing their studies due to starting or operating a business
Application Period

General Reinstatement
Application Period

Course Registration
After reinstatement has been approved, students must register for courses online through the Web system under the guidance of their department.
Reinstatement After Military Discharge
Application Period
Same as the application period for general reinstatement
Application Method
Online application. Applicants must indicate that they have completed their military service when submitting the application.
Required Documents
Submit one of the following: Certificate of Discharge (Military Career Certificate), Certificate of Military Service, Resident Registration Abstract containing military service information
Important Notes
- Students who wish to extend their leave of absence after completing military service must attach proof of discharge and apply according to the following criteria:
- Students whose academic status in the semester immediately preceding their military service leave was general leave of absence: Apply for an Extension of Leave of Absence
- Students whose academic status in the semester immediately preceding their military service leave was enrolled: Apply for a General Leave of Absence
- Students who wish to return to the university before completing military service must attach a Certificate of Expected Discharge. If the expected discharge date falls after one-third of the semester has elapsed, additionally attach the Approval to Attend Classes Pledge Form.
- If the student’s military service status has not been updated to “Military Service Completed” after reinstatement, submit a request through the “Request for Change to Academic Record” menu in the Integrated Information System.
Cancellation of Leave of Absence or Reinstatement
Reason
When a student wishes to cancel an approved leave of absence or reinstatement due to a change in circumstances
Application Period
Within the first one-third of the semester
Application Method
Submit the application in person to the Academic Affairs Team.
