Introduction
The University Student Volunteer Fire Brigade is an organization in which university students voluntarily participate in fire safety activities to help protect the local community and create a safer environment through fire prevention and safety education. Through practical training and education in cooperation with local fire stations, members learn a wide range of firefighting-related skills and strengthen their ability to respond effectively to real emergency situations. To promote greater awareness of safety, the brigade carries out the following major activities.
① Campus Safety Management
Members contribute to practical campus safety management by inspecting fire extinguishers throughout the university. Fire extinguishers and other fire safety equipment installed in campus buildings are checked regularly to prevent potential fire hazards in advance. When an issue is identified, members help strengthen the safety management system by conducting risk assessments and promptly reporting the problem to the relevant administrative department. Through these activities, students gain practical knowledge of how to use fire extinguishers and prevent fires, while also playing an important role in promoting safety awareness both on and off campus. Gaining hands-on experience in everyday settings helps students better understand the importance of safety and develop a stronger sense of responsibility for accident prevention and emergency response.
② Training in Cooperation with the Fire Station
In cooperation with the Songdo Fire Station, members receive in-person training and acquire essential firefighting skills and knowledge. Firefighters provide practical instruction in areas such as fire suppression, first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and rescue techniques, helping students prepare to respond quickly and effectively in actual emergency situations. Through this training, members learn how to use firefighting equipment and develop crisis response skills in conditions that closely resemble real-life situations. This enables them to remain calm in the event of a disaster and helps cultivate the attitude and responsibility expected of safety-conscious citizens.
③ Participation in On- and Off-Campus Events
The brigade actively promotes its role by participating in major events such as university festivals and large-scale local events, including the Pentaport Festival held in Songdo, Incheon. During these events, members operate booths to promote fire safety awareness and provide participants with information on fire prevention and first aid. Through fire extinguisher demonstrations, CPR training, and the distribution of various safety education materials, participants are able to learn essential safety knowledge in an accessible and practical way. These outreach activities help raise awareness of the role and importance of the University Student Volunteer Fire Brigade within the local community while also contributing to the spread of a stronger culture of safety. In addition, members participate in casualty rescue drills by acting as mock victims, helping firefighters conduct more realistic rescue training. By taking on the role of patients during these exercises, members experience the flow of rescue operations firsthand and gain a better understanding of the responsibilities and challenges faced by firefighters.
④ Production of Safety Card News
Approximately twice a month, the brigade creates and publishes safety-related card news to share useful safety information with a wider audience. Topics include water safety guidelines for the summer season, how to prepare an emergency first-aid kit, laboratory safety rules, and precautions to take while hiking. Through this content, members not only help raise general safety awareness but also provide opportunities for people to learn practical and specialized safety knowledge that they may not have encountered before.
In this way, the University Student Volunteer Fire Brigade plays an important role in strengthening the safety network of the local community, raising awareness of fire safety, and improving disaster response capabilities. Through these activities, university students recognize the importance of safety for themselves and help create a safer society by sharing that value with others. The University Student Volunteer Fire Brigade provides opportunities for both personal growth and meaningful social contribution, and it will continue to play an important role in supporting the safety of our community.
