The Incheon National University Alpine Club was established in 1979, the same year the university opened, and was registered as the university’s very first central student club!
The club participates in a wide range of mountaineering and sports activities, including sport climbing, rock climbing, hiking, ice climbing, backpacking, and long-distance ridge traverses. Members can enjoy spring flowers, summer valleys, autumn foliage, and snow-covered winter scenery while hiking along mountain ridges. Rock climbing on steep cliffs and ice climbing on frozen walls that change in form each year are unique experiences that only an alpine club can truly offer!
In 2009, the club successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest, becoming the first university alpine club in Korea to complete ascents of the highest peaks on all seven continents. We also engage in academic and cultural activities by carefully documenting the lessons and experiences gained from mountains and nature and preserving them as part of our club’s heritage. As a member of the University Alpine Federation, the Incheon National University Alpine Club interacts and participates in joint activities with university alpine clubs throughout Korea, including those in Seoul and the greater metropolitan area, providing members with diverse experiences and meaningful opportunities to connect with others.
The special bond formed between members who climb together while connected by a rope and trusting one another is known as the “bond of the rope.”
This “bond of the rope” represents an exceptionally strong and lasting connection between fellow climbers!
When students are asked about the alpine club, many respond, “It looks amazing,” or “I want to try it,” but also say, “It seems dangerous,” or “I’m not confident enough.” Compared with some other clubs, the activities may be more challenging, physically demanding, or even a little intimidating—but that is exactly why university life is the perfect time to take on the challenge and enjoy the experience!!
Growing together with the university, our Alpine Club takes pride in its adventurous spirit, passion for the mountains, and sincere commitment to exploration and learning.

In addition to overseas expeditions, the club successfully completed pioneering climbs on the ice walls of Duta Mountain in 1986 and the sea cliffs of Haegeumgang in 1987. It also successfully completed traverses of the Taebaek mountain range in 1989 and the Baekdudaegan in 1991. In recognition of these achievements, the club has twice received the “Outstanding University Alpine Club” award presented by the Korea Student Alpine Federation (KSAF).
Our Alpine Club continues to enjoy the true pleasure of mountaineering while creating meaningful experiences, lasting memories, and valuable connections!!
