On-site Inspection of Jemulpo Campus
Incheon National University (President Injae Lee) announced that on June 23, 2025, the newly appointed president conducted an official on-site inspection of the Jemulpo Campus, reviewing the overall facility conditions and emphasizing the need for thorough maintenance of aging infrastructure, enhanced safety management, and the practical implementation of future development plans.
The on-site inspection was joined by key members of the new executive team, including the president, and focused on major areas of the campus such as the ▲Lifelong Education Center, ▲disused aging buildings, ▲sports field, and ▲golf practice range.
The president first checked the safety management status of the buildings that are no longer in use and stressed, “Even if a facility is not currently in use, strict access control and safety management are essential to prevent accidents.”
During the inspection of the sports field, he remarked, “Consistent and effective management is critical to improve user convenience, including aspects such as nighttime lighting, drainage, and pavement conditions.”
He also visited the golf practice range to assess the condition of equipment and safety management practices, stating, “To enhance the quality of hands-on lifelong education, systematic facility maintenance and repair must go hand in hand.”
Following the site inspection, during a meeting with working-level staff, the president noted, “Jemulpo Campus is not only a historical space that holds Incheon National University’s roots, but also a strategic asset to be developed into a future hub of education and culture,” and added, “Gradual renovation of old buildings, along with balanced implementation of campus reorganization and specialization projects in collaboration with the local community, must be pursued.”
Incheon National University is currently promoting a phased redevelopment and restructuring plan for Jemulpo Campus, aiming to maintain its educational functions while transforming it into an open learning space that meets regional needs. Plans are being developed to address a wide range of improvements, including the demolition of outdated facilities, enhanced safety management, utilization of idle spaces, and the integration of cultural and startup support functions.
An INU official commented, “This inspection, conducted immediately after the president’s inauguration, went beyond routine checking—it was an effort to explore practical improvements based on feedback from the field,” and added, “Going forward, all departments will work together to establish a realistic development roadmap for Jemulpo Campus, focusing on the renovation of aging facilities, reinforcement of athletic infrastructure, and the creation of a safer and more pleasant campus environment.”
