Professor Kim Ji-hwan of Incheon National University's Academy of Chinese Studies has been inaugurated as the 14th president of The Manchurian Studies Association. The term of office is two years from March 2025.
The Manchurian Studies Association was established in 1998 to lead the study of the Manchurian region, the core of the change in East Asian history, and is a prestigious society related to Manchurian research in Korea. It has grown into an international interdisciplinary forum involving majors in history, literature, economics, geography, and sociology in Korea, China, Japan, Russia, Tibet, and Mongolia. Professor Kim will oversee the research and activities of the Manchurian Studies Association as chairman.
Professor Kim said, "We plan to expand the scope of Manchurian research within his term to organize joint academic conferences with prominent domestic and foreign academic organizations, universities, and research institutes, and further secure young emerging researchers as research personnel for Manchurian research."
Professor Kim Ji-hwan is a professor at the Academy of Chinese Studies at Incheon National University, and has served as a visiting researcher at Tokyo University in Japan and president of the Society of Modern and Contemporary Chinese History. He also serves as an academic adviser to China's Hebuk Normal University and is active at home and abroad with books such as "The History of China as a Railway" (selected by the Korea Academy of Sciences) and "Modern Railway: A Story of a Railway with Modernization, Exploitation, and Resistance."
