Institute for Humanities 2026 First-Half Thematic Great Books Lecture Series
The Institute for Humanities at Incheon National University, in collaboration with Haedodii Library in Yeonsu-gu, will host a humanities lecture series titled “Sports Narratives and the Humanities” over five sessions from March 12 to April 9. The lectures will be held every Thursday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with the March 25 session scheduled separately on Wednesday.
This lecture series is designed to explore the question “What is a sports narrative?” from a humanities perspective, using popular works such as Slam Dunk, Haikyu!!, The Prince of Tennis, Moneyball, and Hot Stove League. While sports narratives are often understood within the framework of coming-of-age stories, they also reflect contemporary socio-cultural and political issues, including success and failure, gender, structural discrimination, meritocracy, and disability.
The 2026 first-half thematic lecture series expands and reinterprets the meaning of “classics” in a contemporary context, offering an opportunity to read and analyze sports narratives that capture the socio-cultural dynamics of the past two decades.
Lecture Schedule:
△ March 12일 소외되었던 리그의 사회사(김범성, 도쿄이과대)
△ March 19일 《슬램덩크》 보기의 즐거움(최지은 작가)
