The Lifelong Education Center of Incheon National University (Director: Sang-jeong Han) announced that students from its Major in Physical Education achieved outstanding results at the 2026 National Taekwondo Championships, held from March 5 to 6 at Palma Gymnasium in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do, winning three gold medals and two silver medals.
Hosted by the Korea Taekwondo Association, this competition is recognized as one of the most prestigious tournaments in the nation, attracting top-level athletes. This year, a total of 10 men’s teams (including 7 university teams, 58 athletes) and 3 women’s teams (including university teams, 18 athletes) participated in intense competition.
Incheon National University dispatched an elite team consisting of one head coach and eight student-athletes. Despite balancing rigorous academic commitments with intensive training, the athletes demonstrated exceptional performance, with more than half of the participants winning medals, significantly enhancing the reputation of the university. This achievement is regarded as a meaningful outcome of both the athletes’ dedication and the systematic, science-based training system unique to the Academic Credit Bank System.
The head coach stated, “I am extremely proud of the students who achieved outstanding results without wavering despite the dual challenges of academics and training,” adding that “we will continue to advance our curriculum to cultivate well-rounded sports professionals equipped with both academic knowledge and practical skills.”
Director Sang-jeong Han of the Lifelong Education Center remarked, “This remarkable achievement is the result of the combined efforts of our faculty, educational system, and the passion of our students,” emphasizing that “we will continue to provide comprehensive administrative and financial support so that students can fully demonstrate their capabilities on the national stage.” She also added that the center will further expand high-quality lifelong education infrastructure that integrates sports and culture, fulfilling its responsibility as a university that grows alongside the local community.
